What are some good books on nutrition for medical students?

in the medical field all ask for advice on what to eat, and what to not, but in really doctors don’t know what to eat and what to suggest, as in our medical field, professors or our books don’t focus on nutrition, but on medications, means you mainly focus on secondary prevention rather than primary prevention.

hence I am here to suggest some books and online references, from here you can get very good information, and also can use in your professional life.

for an overall view of nutrition: DIETETICS BY B.SRILAKSHMI

Dietetics - Multi Colour Edition
Dietetics is authored by eminent author Prof. B. Srilakshmi and is published by one of the leading publishers, NEW AGE International Publishers. This latest Multicolour Edition of the book is intended for the undergraduate and postgraduate students of Dietetics and Nutrition. The book is recommen...

FOR SPECIFIC DISEASES:

(A) DIABETES: DIET AND DIABETES BY ICMR HYDERABAD

(B) HEART DISEASES: DIET AND HEART DISEASES BY NIN HYDERABAD

DIET AND HEART DISEASES
DIET AND HEART DISEASES

THESE BOOKS YOU CAN TRUST, AS THESE BOOKS PRINTED BY THE GOVERNMENT, EXCEPT THE FIRST ONE, WHICH WAS SUGGESTED BY MY Dr. MANOJ KUMAR DASH SIR(MY BEST TEACHER), PROFF. COMMUNITY MEDICINE

https://www.nin.res.in/downloads/DietaryGuidelinesforNINwebsite.pdf

you can also read about it from any nutrition journals, i suggest you trust those journals, which are indexed in pubmed, Scopus, Embase, DOAJ

There are trust issues on some of the articles published by NBT times, NDTV times, hence i don't recommend to take advice from these sources.

MEDICAL JOURNEY WITH BOOKS

 Hello, my medico friends,

how r you, i wish you are well. today i want to share a exprience with you about books which i like most during each specific year. i think you enjoyed it.

First start with first year, most horror subject for first year students that is anatomy, if you want a book which make the concepts clear in most simplest way and also have most simplest diagram which you can easily draw in your professional exams that is ''VISHRAM SINGH'' books. also its embryology book is fantastic , its diagram is superb, helps you to understand the topic in much simpler way.

if you want to gain more knowlwdge and 3d diagrams you must go for ''GRAYS ANATOMY FOR STUDENTS''. this book has 3d diagrams which makes your base clear. preferably, you shoiuld read pelvis and uterus and prostrate from this book. this makes your concept totally clear. ,it is also the standard book for anatomy.

for any app, i suggest you"complete anatomy" available in playstore, it gives you 3day free trial, where explore many things, and have option for buy for lifetime. i sure that this app does not dissapoint you.

BIOCHEMISTRY: i suggest biochemistry by satyanarayan, it is a very good book, very simple language and easy to understand, standard book for this is"HARPERS BIOCHEMISTRY'' you should read for deep knowledge, it is a very good book.

PHYSIOLOGY: standard book for physiology is guyton and hall textbook for medical physiology by JOHN E HALL, you should read this book, this book make you understand the topic in astory way. but problem of this book, it does not have sufficient content to write in your professional examination. You can also try AK JAIN, it is a very good book which has sufficient content, and have many tables to clear your concepts. there is also one book named "GANONG REVIEW OF MEDICAL PHYSIOLOGY", very good book, specifically important for preparing pg entrance examinations., for exam orientation book , you can buyt "AK BASAK". where you find almost all questions coming in your professional examination.

MICROBIOLOGY: now the time for 2nd year nibbas and nibbis in our time we get extra 6 months which we named honeymoon period, when all students are relaxed after giving the first professional examination which they think this is the hardest exam of life which they recently passed. but they don't know the 2nd year exam is also there which is the baap of 1st professional examionation.

let's come to the topic, about the microbiology books. my favourite book is "APURBA SHASTRI" which ia very fantastic book, also the bestseller. still i am using this book for any doubts, one suggestion for you , don't give this book to your juniors completely, as it also reqiuires in your final proff. so, keep with yourself. standard book is PANIKER MICROBIOLOGY also, a good book ypu should try once.

PHARMACOLOGY one of the dangerous subject i ever meet, also the exprience for other students. KDT PHARMACOLOGY is one of th best book i ever get, very simple language, and information for each drug available. for professional examination point of view you can use TARA V SHANBHAG, where all question's answer available. i liked it. FOR reasoning questions, you can use EXAM PREPAROTORY MANNUAL FOR PHARMACOLOGY BY GOBIND RAI GARG where all drugs are enlisted in tabular form with its side effects, uses and contraindications.

FMT one of the interesting book in my 2 nd year life,in  which you enjoy every line of it. and feel you are the lawyer and working in any administration. for this my favourite book is GAUTAM BISWAS, very easy languagre, and easy to understand, but for examination point of view you can use YP RAGHAVENDRA BABU which is a very thin book, you can start one month before your proff examination, and complete whole book, it covers all important topics which is required in exam.

PATHOLOGY my personal favourite subject for this none other than THE ROBBINS is the best book, this book has simplest language i ever found in my whole mbbs. very enjoyable to read and make your concepts concrete. It is self sufficient for any entrance examination and also for professional examination.but you can read GEETIKA KHANA BHATTACHARYA which covers all questions coming in your proff examination

ENT now the 3rd year comes, where you have to study less but 4th year subjects make this year little complicated, i suggest you to please start 4th year subjcts from thi syear, otherwise you are in big trouble in 4th year, where you get a vast no. of subjects not topic, yes you listen right, it is 'subject'

for ent DHINGRA is the best book please, read every line of it, it is a very good book which makes your concepts crystal clear.

COMMUNITY MEDICINE its short form PSM it is a very good, this book has many content in a very systematic way specifically for diseases, in final year also, i refer this book for diseases part. mene jitna harrison nahi padha , isko padha hai diseases ke liye, when you read this book ypu become auditer, medical officer, engineer etc. PARK is the book for it, read this you defintely enjoy it.But this book is not good for proff examination  as many contents are very much repeatitive, you can buy PREPARATORY MANNUAL BY VIVEK JAIN very good book, complete your all topics in short time, not so short time, you have to start atleast 3 months before examination. "but one of the dark reality, i want to tell that this book is totally outdated, this book keep its edition changing every 2 year, but not updated the information, when you visit the periphery, then you realise that park information is very far from the reality"

OPTHA ankhon se pyar ka izhar AK KHURANA is one of the best book for it , but the standard book for this is PARSON'S DISEASE OF EYE

MEDICINE literally this year is full of exhaustion, you feel very tiredness in this year daily hospital duty, lack of physical activities, and you feel you are in a vicious cycle of study and clinicals, to easy your final year i made ah cloud for you visit once. the link is https://sites.google.com/view/ahcloud?pli=1 , i truly want to say that in this year i get very little time to read books, i spend most  my time to see videos of various teachers, actually i was a marrow user, hence i know very limited teachers, there are many teachers whose teachings are fabulous, so please ask your seniors about iT before buying any platform.

HARRISON THE BOOK OF INTERNAL MEDICINE is the standard book for it, it is a very good book, you should read once, it makes your concepts clear.' I mainly see the videos of deepak marwah, who is a very good teacher and make your concepts clear, but remember its notes are not good, try to make your own notes, it will be better, so, you have to start to see the medicine videos from 3rd year. so you don't feel any haphazard to complete the medicine course. for practical purposes you can use KUNDU

O&G one of the ferrocious subject of my final year, our hod is very strict, so our students give more importance than any other subjects. DUTTA is best for both subjects, if you keen to know about the standard books, for obstetrics , it is WILLIAMS and for gynaecology it is SHAW. but truly said, i go to my proff exmination only reading the dr. shakshi arora mam videos available in marrow, she is a very good teacher, and make your clinicals so easy that you remain with few doubts after seeing all the videos of mam.' for practicals, you can use ARUP MAJHI

ORTHOPEDICS this book has gut to fail all subjects for easiness, and for diagrams, when you read orthopedics you feel you are in school. my personal favourite JOHN EBNEZAR, this book has no comparison it makes you understand every and other topic in very deep. your concepts are crystal clear. you don't have to read the whole book, only read the important topics from this book

you can also use MAHESWARI it is a short book and also very good book.

SURGERY for this you can read MANIPAL SURGERY, it is my favourite books, as it has many images and make the topics super easy. standard book for this is BAILEY, which is also a good book, but you find it has some deficit for content for certain topics.

PEDIATRICS for this you can use OP GHAI, very simple book, you enjoy while reading, but the standard book for this is NELSON TEXTBOOK OF PEDIATRICS ,for practical purpose you can use SANTOSH KUMAR very good book, make your history taking as well as skill of  diagnosis very much strong.'

If you want a system wise approach, means, if i start heart, its physiology, pathology, surgery at one place, i suggest USMLE FIRST AID. it is a competitive exam book, but this type of orientation I found only in this book.

ok bye bye, i think for today it is very much for you, meet you in another blog.
